Executive Summary

Generation Z or Gen Z (plural), born after 1996, are rising. They are now the largest population cohort with approximately 2.5 billion people. The same situation applies in Indonesia. The country’s statistics centre stated in September 2020 that Gen Z now covers 27.94% and 21.88%, respectively.

‌The massive number of Gen Z, combined with the general knowledge that they are tech-savvy, has made many declare them the most pivotal generation to date. Many believe Gen Z’s actions, values, and lifestyle will influence various aspects, from brand experience to government policies, in the future. The New York Times, in 2020, even suggested workplaces start hiring a ‘generational consultant’ to understand Gen Z better.

‌What the New York Times suggested in 2020 arguably should be considered. Gen Z are different from the previous generations, even to Millenials. Despite the fact that both generations are relatively close to each other in terms of age group, Gen Z hold different values, making them unique. Those values even shape their lifestyle and consumption habits.
